Secondary treatment further reduces organic pollutants and suspended solids in the wastewater. This stage typically involves aeration tanks where bacteria and other microorganisms consume organic matter. Clarifiers or secondary sedimentation tanks allow the biomass to settle, producing clarified effluent.
