Tertiary Treatment

Some centralized STPs incorporate tertiary treatment processes to further improve the quality of the effluent. Tertiary treatment may involve filtration (such as sand or membrane filtration) to remove fine particles, as well as disinfection (such as chlorination or UV treatment) to kill remaining pathogens.
